Now, with treetap in hand apply directly to those orange spots on the trees. Only once until they show back up again or you might permanently close the spot. You’ll get some sticky resin. Take that to your furnace, throw some charcoal in, and you’ve got rubber for all your insulating needs.

These are the caves I have to deal with, and they hate me. There are so many branches, which admittly will be nice when I have them lit up and safe, but right now they’re just dark and they make it hard to work my way down. I’ll go down a bit and then have to explore a side passage for a bit just so this main one’ll be less likely to have a creeper or a skelly stop by to say hello. Slow days ahead.

On the other hand, when it is all finally cleared out this could be a nice straightish shot down that’d be easy to setup a minecart track in. So there is looking forward to that too.

Down in the mines. Not pictured but I worked on the entryway a little and threw a bed down here as well so I can wait till day easier. Trying to be quiet on here so I wouldn’t write up more excuses so one post today as well. Anyways, so far so good. First real difficulty was this guy. I’ve seen these guys topside around the swamp. They look like werewolves or something. My point is: they are tough, like half a stone sword tough. I took a hit and they didn’t do much damage so that’s nice at least.

Four posts in a day, that’s a good number. So today’s grand finale: Apatite. This purple diamond lookalike is a pretty common find. With two parts sand to one apatite you can make fertilizer. With that you can make humus ( Not hummus. ) and catalysts. Now I admit I had to look this up, but it seems like Apatite it’s products are part of the Forestry mod. Catalysts are used in a “Forester” to greatly(?) increase the growth speed of trees and wheat around it. While humus is mineral rich dirt, because it lets you grow trees closer together…? The wiki is kind of vague on the subject, but it does say that Forestry is being removed from Technic at the mod creator’s request. So I might not have the chance to use any of it anyways.

Went a little farther because procrastination. I checked and I am on normal and I haven’t changed how often mobs spawn. ( Which you can do. Alright. Here I go. Time to do a little cave exploring. I made my way to the end of my lit path near where that man from before was. No idea where he is now. I don’t really feel like jumping in this dark pit. The fact that a creeper fell in as I got close didn’t help either. There’s another path behind me that I’ll try for now.

I’ve setup a nice little nook in the wall with a chest near the mine exit with thanks to the turtle from earlier. He gave his life to save some tree four logs. A moment of silence for the turtle. Now I will surely go off and begin mining, nothing could stop me at all. Nothing at all.

( Saving down here like this’ll pretty much force to start mining when I go to do tomorrow’s post. Can’t put it off forever I suppose, especially if I’m to get redstone and have fun with all the IndustrialCraft / ComputerCraft things. )

Watch me stall just a bit longer. Turtles! Generally peaceful and do hide in their shells when you approach them. You have to knock them on to their backs to actually damage them, but I haven’t really found a good way to do so. I can tell you that if you do hit them enough they will eventually flip over and then you can damage them. They drop chests. Not sure why but they do.

I’m not looking for trouble here, you leave me alone...

I’m not looking for trouble here, you leave me alone and I’ll leave you alone. Cool? Cool. Anyways, was heading out to the mines and I noticed this guy behind my tower. They don’t seem to bother you unless you hit them so they’re pretty harmless.

Got it! Okay so in terms of drops the apple worms sometimes dropped these things on the right called “Grub Husks” and the tree itself dropped a few of these “Eldritch Logs”. With this handy information in hand and a quick google search I found this page. Apparently this Eldritch Tree’s logs are used in some Eldritch devices. I really have no experience with any of ThaumCraft and I’m kind of scared to. Maybe when I’m a bit better equipped I can start poking vis and find out what I can do with it.

I’m not sure what I was expecting really, but the tree...

I’m not sure what I was expecting really, but the tree turning red and shaking when I hit it was not it. Then it spews these apple sprite things at me. I need to deal with these then maybe take another swing at the tree. If I can get some kind of unique drop from the tree or the fruit elementals I’ll have a better lead on what ever these things are.

(Nontree news: The jellyfish in the pond are slightly poisonous and drop slime balls.)

Spending a bit of time above ground for now trying to hunt crocodiles for their hide. It works just as well as cow hide in terms of armor, and being in a swamp they’re everywhere. Except when I am looking for them. Anyways.

Lets file this under “Things I don’t understand”. This is the second “tree” I’ve seen like this. The other is actually just at the top of the tunnel entrance. It’s “tree” not tree because it doesn’t seem to actually be made from blocks instead it seems to act more like a mob in that it pushes me away when I try to walk into it. I don’t know what mod adds these but I’m just going lump it in with ThaumCraft. (Again) Thats kind of my catch all of ~magical unexplained things even if I can’t find this tree on their wiki. (Maybe it’s an old version of the mod?) Lets see if I can break it.
